Privacy Policy

Medical News Stream LLC (referred to as "Medical News Stream,""we," "us," "our," “Site,” or “Newsletter”) operates MedicalNewsStream.com and its related newsletters and other resources intended for use by healthcare professionals (referred to as the "Service"). Visitors or users of the Service might be referred to as “You” or “Your” or “Their.” This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights available to you. This privacy policy applies only to information collected where this privacy policy is posted. Medical News Stream is publicly accessible without registration; registration is required only to receive our daily newsletter email. 

This Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use apply each time you access the Site or use the Service. By accessing the Site or using the Service, you accept this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use as if you had signed them, and you consent to our collecting and using your information as described. We may revise this Privacy Policy at any time, without notice to you. You are responsible for reviewing it regularly. Your use of the Service following the posting of changes means you agree to abide by those changes. 

a. Information you provide at registration. If you register for the Service (including to receive our newsletters), we collect the information requested on our registration form, which currently includes: username, email address, password, first and last name, profession, specialty, year of graduation from medical school, country of practice, work postal code, and National Provider Identifier (NPI) number. We may update these fields from time to time.

b. Information from licensed third-party sources. Before you register directly with us, we may have obtained your contact and healthcare professional information (such as name, email, profession specialty) under license from a third-party data provider for the limited purpose of inviting you to visit the Service and to register for our newsletter. That vendor represents to us that its list is fully opted in for third-party marketing use. Once you register directly with us, the information you provide becomes part of our own records, separate from the licensed source data. See Section 4.

c. Information collected automatically. When you visit the Service, we and our advertising and analytics partners automatically collect certain technical information — such as IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and referring page — through cookies and similar tracking technologies. See our Cookie Policy for a full description of the cookies and trackers in use and how to control them.

d. Information from advertising partners. Some of our advertising partners independently identify visitors as healthcare professionals using cross-website network technology that matches healthcare professional identifying information to serve healthcare professional relevant advertising (see Section 6). This process is performed by our advertising partners and their partners, not by Medical News Stream directly.

e. Information from Registration. If you register and you share your healthcare professional information with us, we share it with our email service provider. This sharing allows our advertising partners to serve healthcare professional advertisements directly within the newsletter emails you receive. See Section 6 and our Cookie Policy for more detail.

We use the information described above to: operate and provide the Service and the newsletter; create and manage your account; send you the newsletter and, where applicable, introductory marketing communications; personalize and serve healthcare professional advertising; maintain the security and integrity of the Service; comply with legal obligations; and understand aggregate usage of the Service through analytics.

We distinguish between two categories of contact data:

Registered/owned data — information you provide directly when you register with us, which we retain as our own record for so long as your account remains active, subject to Section 7.

Licensed marketing data — contact and professional information licensed from partners to invite you to register directly with us, visit the site, or take part in the Service in other ways. We do not treat this data as our own beyond these limited marketing purposes and we track its source internally.

If you opt out of communications originating from licensed marketing data (or from our own newsletter), we retain your contact information in a dedicated suppression file, maintained independently of our active lists, so that you remain opted out even if the same contact information is later licensed to us again.. Where the opt-out relates to licensed data, we also notify the originating partner of the opt-out so both parties remain compliant.

We share information with:

Service providers who perform functions on our behalf, including our consent management platform, cloud data storage provider, our content management/hosting platform, and our email service provider healthcare professional identifying information in order to deliver the newsletter.

Advertising partners, who receive information (including cookie and device identifiers, professional, specialty, national provider identifier, and behavioral data ) in order to serve and measure advertising on the Service. This includes our email advertising partner which receives healthcare professional information via our email service provider when you open a newsletter email, in order to serve you healthcare professionally relevant advertisements within that email. See Section 6 and our Cookie Policy for more detail.

Legal and safety purposes, where we believe disclosure is required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Medical News Stream LLC, our users, or others.

Business transfers, in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to standard confidentiality protections.

We do not sell your personal information. Some of our advertising relationships may constitute a "sale" or "share" of personal information as those terms are defined under California law because they involve cross-context behavioral advertising; see Section 9(a) for your related rights.

The Service uses cookies and similar technologies for site functionality, analytics, and advertising, including advertising served by third-party advertising partners. Some healthcare professionally relevant advertising on the Service relies on a third-party network that recognizes healthcare professionals across a network of participating websites using cookies and other technologies and matches that recognition in real time, in order to serve relevant advertising; this process occurs on our advertising partners' systems, not on data we collect directly.

Separately, our daily email newsletter uses a similar form of healthcare professional advertising that passes information  to our email service provider during delivery of the newsletter. This sharing allows our advertising partners to serve healthcare professional relevant advertisements directly within the newsletter emails you open. Unlike the website-based identity resolution above, this pathway uses your actual registration data, not a separately-observed identification cookie.

Our advertising partners maintain their own privacy policies governing the data they handle; contact us (Section 13) if you would like more information about a specific partner.

We retain registration/account information for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the Service and comply with our legal obligations. We retain suppression records (Section 4) for as long as necessary to honor opt-out requests. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information at any time by contacting us (Section 13), subject to our need to retain limited records (such as suppression records) to honor your own opt-out.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encrypted storage of account passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you and take other steps as required by applicable law.

a. California residents (CCPA/CPRA). If you are a California resident, you have the right to: know what personal information we collect, use, and share about you; request deletion of your personal information; request correction of inaccurate personal information; opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information (including for cross-context behavioral advertising); and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise these rights, or to opt out of sale/sharing, contact us as described in Section 13 or use our "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information] We will verify your request before responding, consistent with applicable law.

b. Other U.S. residents. Residents of other states may have similar privacy rights under their state's law. We aim to honor requests to know, delete, correct, or opt out of targeted advertising consistent with the framework described above, regardless of your state of residence, and will evaluate additional state-specific obligations as needed.

c. Users located outside the United States. The Service is directed to healthcare professionals and other readers in the United States and is not marketed to users located outside the United States. If you access the Service from the European Union, United Kingdom, or elsewhere outside the U.S., our consent management platform applies additional cookie-consent gating to certain analytics and advertising technologies for recognized EU/UK visitors. We do not otherwise represent that this Policy addresses every requirement of non-U.S. privacy law.

The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it.

The Service links to third-party websites, including original news sources and journals. This Policy does not apply to those third-party sites, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices.

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the revised Policy with an updated "Last Revised" date. Material changes will be highlighted as appropriate.
